Brown Sugar Lemonade {Recipe}

Mmmm, summertime is here again, even if our weather here on the central coast won’t have you believe it! Last weekend, my friends came to visit to escape the heat – they surely did, as we ate gelato on the wharf while it drizzled on us! However, many of the days ahead will be filled with summer sunshine, and that means watermelon, cherries, and lemonade ahead.

I recently made some brown sugar lemonade, and there have been a few of you asking for a recipe – so here it is!

Ingredients

2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 8-10 meyer lemons)

2 cups brown sugar

6 cups water (2 boiling for simple syrup, 4 cold cups of water)

Directions

  • Squeeze lemons to make 2 cups of lemon juice
  • Make a simple syrup using 2 cups of brown sugar and 2 cups of water. To do this, bring sugar and water to a rolling boil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Pour lemon juice and 4 cups of cold water into a pitcher; then add simple syrup until you reach desired sweetness. With regular lemonade, I usually use 1/2 the simple syrup, but I found that the brown sugar doesn’t sweeten the lemonade quite as much so I used more of this simple syrup.
  • Chill for two hours.
  • Enjoy!

The dog days of summer can get really hot, so enjoy this lemonade when the temps are warm. Let me know if you try it and how it goes for you! What’s your favorite summer food? Let me know in a comment below!

xoxo
