What’s Happening Around Here - May at Copper & Fern
Less is More
Lately, the shop has felt busy in a way that’s hard to measure, but easy to notice. More people are stopping in to say hello. Kids recognize the space and head straight for their favourite corner. Neighbours popping by on their way somewhere else, then staying a little longer than they planned.
Those small, everyday moments are what remind us why this place exists. Not just to sell things, but to create a space where people feel comfortable walking in, taking their time, and connecting.
So for May, we wanted to shift the focus away from products and talk a little more about what’s happening around the shop: the programs, the events, and the community that continues to grow here in Britannia Village.
OUR LOYALTY CARDS
A Small Thank You for Coming Back.
If you’ve visited recently, you may have noticed the loyalty cards near the counter. They’re intentionally simple. No apps, no points to track, no complicated systems. Just a small way for us to say thank you to the people who continue to support the shop and come back again and again.
How it works: For each purchase you receive a stamp, and once you have collected 10 you receive $10 off that 10th order.
What we’ve loved most about the program so far is watching those cards slowly fill up. It’s a quiet reminder that this shop is built on relationships; familiar faces, repeat visits, and people choosing to support local whenever they can. If you haven’t picked one up yet, next time you’re in, just ask. We’ll make sure to start one for you. We keep them in the shop so you never have to think - “oh gosh, where did I leave it!”
The Events We’ve Hosted So Far
Over the past year, one of the most rewarding parts of running the shop has been hosting small events and workshops. Nothing too formal. Nothing too complicated. Just opportunities for people to gather, try something new, and spend time together. We’ve watched neighbours meet each other for the first time. Kids proudly show off something they made. Friends plan to come back for the next event.
Some recent events include:
Book Reading Evening with local authors Shannon Cairney, Heather Hendrie & Tracy Chalmers
Apres 5 with the Squamish Chamber; co-hosted with The Britannia General Store
Weaving Workshop with Minttu Fibre Arts
Beading Workshop with All and Extra
These gatherings have quickly become some of our favourite moments in the shop. They’ve helped shape what we want Copper & Fern to be; not just a place to shop, but a place to connect.

Our EVENTS PAGE is a helpful resource if you have friends or family visiting and are looking for something to do together. Also if you are looking for a space to host your own event we would love to accommodate you and your vision. We feel we are the perfect space for many occasions.
May Long Weekend; Britannia Day May 17, 2026
May long weekend always brings a shift in energy to the Village, and this year is shaping up to be a particularly exciting one with Britannia Day happening right here in the community. It’s one of those weekends when everything feels a little more lively. More people walking through the Village. More families out exploring. More conversations happening on sidewalks and in shops.
We’re looking forward to being part of that energy and welcoming both familiar faces and new visitors into the store. Britannia Day will include:
- Live music and entertainment throughout the Village
- A Kid’s Bike parade Arts & Crafts Sale at the Community Hall
- Family-friendly activities and games Local food and treats
- Opportunities to explore the shops and businesses that make this community unique
- A chance to spend the day together outdoors
It’s a wonderful way to kick off the season and celebrate the people and places that make Britannia Beach feel like home.
Last Call For Consignment
We’ve made the call to wind down our consignment program… It was something we were excited to try, and we’re really glad we did, but over time we’ve realized it doesn’t quite fit the direction we’re heading with the shop.
And that’s okay. Trying new things is part of building something. Consignment will be wrapping up after the May long weekend, so if you’ve been curious or had your eye on something, this is the perfect time to come take one last look.
COMMUNITY > EVERYTHING
Thank You for Being Part of This Community.
Running a small shop means relying on the people around you: the customers who come back, the neighbours who spread the word, and the families who make this place feel alive. We don’t take that support for granted.
Every visit, every conversation, and every shared moment helps shape what Copper & Fern is becoming. And as we move into a busy season, we’re excited to keep building on what’s already started! More events, more connection, and more reasons to gather.
We hope to see you soon.
